PRETTY UGLY WORDS: A Pattern-Interrupt Series

“Pretty Ugly Words” is a series of collages I created as a pattern interrupt for limiting beliefs (negative self-talk). I was aiming for jarring contrast: making ugly thoughts beautiful to look at, so they hit differently when you take them in.

THIS particular collage doesn’t fit into the series quite the same way, but it’s a phrase I LOVE, that I learned from the amazing Carla Savetsky (who taught a radical class called “Fierce Self-Love” - find her at www.carlasavetsky.com) - it’s a pattern interrupt of a different sort - even if you’re feeling not good enough, you can choose to just move ahead with your life and DO THE THING, because that’s what makes change.

I’M NOT GOOD ENOUGH AND I’M GOING TO DO IT ANYWAY!
I created this original collage by hand-painting the phrase “I’m not good enough and I’m going to do it anyway!” with watercolor, and surrounding it with layers of decorative paper and trims. Due to the high-resolution scanning process, you’ll see all its many details and shadows clearly in the giclee* print, so it’ll feel very much like the original collage!

WANT YOUR OWN COPY?
You can purchase an unframed, unmatted print in either:
- 11” x 8.5” (279.5mm x 215.9mm) - this has an approximately 1/4” (6.35mm) white border around it
- 14” x 11” (355.6mm x 279.5mm) - this has a minimal white border, approximately 1/8" (3.175mm).

EXAMPLE PHOTOS OF FRAMED ART:
Please see the listing photos to get a sense of how both sizes might look framed and hung! The listing photos include virtually framed prints in order to help you visualize what the art would look life if you frame it - but PLEASE NOTE: YOU WILL NOT BE RECEIVING A FRAMED PIECE OF ART; YOU WILL RECEIVE UNMATTED PRINTS ONLY. You can frame or hang them however you like!

--Please note: any watermarks in the listing photos will NOT appear on the print you receive!--

PRINT QUALITY:
I print these using archival inks on rich heavyweight archival paper - it may be smooth or have a slight texture to it, which enhances the fine art feel - if you have a strong preference, please let me know. These paper/ink combinations are rated by Wilhelm Imaging Research to last 200 years in dark storage or 75 years under glass - so it's gonna last!

COLOR NOTE:
I color-match my prints to the original/digital version. However, due to variations in computer monitors, the colors you see on your screen may look slightly different from the printed version.

WHAT YOU’LL GET:
This is an open edition print, meaning the print isn’t limited to a certain number. Your prints will be shipped unmatted, in a cello sleeve with flaw-board backing. To ensure it reaches you safely, I'll ship it in a rigid fiberboard mailer.

*giclée is a fancy term for an archival inkjet print! More detail from Wikipedia: Giclée, commonly pronounced "zhee-clay," is a generic term for the process of making fine art prints from a digital source using ink-jet printing. The term, from the French verb gicler meaning "to squirt, to spray", originally applied to fine art prints created on Iris printers in a process invented in the early 1990s but has since come to mean any high quality ink-jet print..
